[Ellsworth, WI] – Second quarter grants were recently awarded by Pierce Pepin Cares, the charitable foundation of Pierce Pepin Cooperative Services (PPCS), to local non-profit programs. Grants were made to Healing Play, Inc., Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Durand Fire Department, and Pierce County 4H/FFA Livestock Committee.  PPCS members fund Pierce Pepin Cares by rounding up their monthly energy bills to the nearest dollar through Operation Round Up®, as well as direct donations.

Healing Play, Inc. received a $2,000 grant to support building an inclusive playground at Fairy Wonderland Park in Prescott, Wis. A $1,000 grant was awarded to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church to assist in the installation of a well, septic system, bathroom, and storm shelter at their softball field to increase community use of the facilities. Durand Fire Department received a $1,500 grant to help with the purchase of an AED and thermal imaging camera for their new ladder truck. The Pierce County 4-H/FFA Livestock Committee received a $1,500 grant to assist with upgrading the wash racks for the Drewiske Building at the fairgrounds.

Northwest 4-H also received a $300 grant through Federated Youth Foundation to support their annual golf fundraiser. Federated Youth is funded through unclaimed capital credits and is used for projects that support youth education.

“We are very grateful for the generosity of our members, over 70 percent of whom participate in Operation Round Up,” said Nate Boettcher, PPCS president and CEO.  “These grants affect many different aspects of community life. They will allow the organizations to move forward with projects that positively impact Pierce and Pepin County residents.”

Pierce Pepin Cares provides charitable contributions to nonprofit organizations that offer programs and support projects to enhance the quality of life for those within the communities served by PPCS.  Pierce Pepin Cares grants are awarded quarterly by the Pierce Pepin Cares board of directors. All nine PPCS directors serve on the Pierce Pepin Cares board of directors along with one PPCS member and one PPCS employee.  Nonprofit organizations interested in applying may visit www.piercepepin.coop or call 800-924-2133 for information. The next application deadline is June 15.
