Vegetation Management Program
Pierce Pepin Cooperative Services (PPCS) strives to ensure safe, reliable electric service with as little effect on our landscape as possible. Trees interfering with power lines can cause outages and fires, slow maintenance and repairs, endanger lives and property, and even waste energy. Through its Vegetation Management program, PPCS works to make sure power lines and other utility structures have proper clearance from trees, shrubs and brush.

PPCS’ Vegetation Management program controls trees, shrubs and brush growing around our facilities and equipment on a five to six year rotation.

  • Trained, qualified line clearance experts perform vegetation management through mowing, cutting and herbicide application

  • Power can be temporarily disconnected for safety reasons when tree trimming and other maintenance activities are in close proximity to power lines.

Detailed information about our Vegetation Management program is available in our Trees and Power Lines brochure using the link at right.  Suggested planting distances for trees and shrubs are listed in our Line Clearance Tree Chart.

Tree Line USA® utility
PPCS is recognized as a Tree Line USA utility by the National Arbor Day Foundation. This program honors electric, gas, water and telephone utilities that strive to provide reliable utility service while preserving and properly caring for the trees and vegetation within our communities.

Sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters, the program honors utilities that meet three requirements:

  • A program promoting quality tree care

  • Annual worker training in proper tree practices

  • A tree planting and public education program.

Before you dig…
Call Digger’s Hotline at 1-800-242-8511 or Email-A-Locate at least three business days before you dig for the exact location of electric lines and other utility services buried underground.

NOTE:  Digger's Hotline does not locate propane gas lines.  You must contact your propane supplier to request this service.
